Norman was born and raised in Cottonwood County. He graduated from Comfrey High School and attended Northwestern College in Roseville, MN. Since college he farmed the land his father and grandfather farmed just south of Comfrey, now a Century Farm, and is currently renting it out.  Norm is a part-time mechanic and has served on a local co-op board and church board.  In his spare time he enjoys camping, seeing grandkids, and e-biking.  He and his wife Corrine have four children, Bethany, Abigail, Jordan, and Brennan.

Norman serves on the following committees: AMC Voting Delegate, Broadband Committee, Compensation Committee, Cottonwood County Department Head Meetings, Cottonwood County Ditch Authority, Counties Providing Technology, Des Moines Valley Health & Human Services, Joint Government Meeting, MN Extension Agency Board of Directors, Planning Commission, PrimeWest, SW Minnesota Emergency Communications Board, SW Mental Health Center Board of Directors, SW Mental Health Consortium.  He also serves as an alternate for the Cottonwood-Middle Minnesota River, Des Moines River Watershed, Greater Blue Earth River Basin Alliance, Land Use Advisory Committee, and Watonwan Watershed.
