Kevin was born and raised in Cottonwood County, living in Windom his whole life. Before becoming a commissioner, Kevin worked for 37 years for the City of Windom in the water department. He enjoys playing racquetball, yard work, camping, and spending time with family. Kevin is married to Lynel, who works as a nurse for Avera Medical Clinic; one son, Dustin, and two daughters, Melissa (Alan) Bolkema and Brittany (Justin) Espenson, and seven grandchildren.

Kevin serves on the following committees: AMC Voting Delegate, Compensation Committee, Cottonwood County Department Head Meetings, Cottonwood County Ditch Authority, Cottonwood County Historical Society, Cottonwood County Law Library, Des Moines River West Fork Project, Des Moines Valley Health & Human Services, Heron Lake Watershed District, Intergovernmental Relations Board, Juvenile Screening, Labor-Management Committee, Local Emergency Preparedness & Planning Commission, MN Extension Agency Board of Directors, MN Rural Counties Caucus, Statewide Health Improvement Program. He also serves as an alternate for the Red Rock Rural Waters, Rural MN Energy Board, SW Minnesota Regional Solid Waste Commission.
