On September 16, 2022, it was discovered that jet fuel had leaked into the potable water supply of the aircraft carrier. After flushing the ship's potable water system traces of the contamination persisted throughout the month. When the story broke, five sailors had reported health concerns.
A water contamination of the USS Abraham Lincoln's potable water supply was discovered September 21, 2022. Upon investigation, it was determined that the supply was contaminated with wastewater, leading to the proliferation of e coli.
PFAS, nicknamed "forever chemicals," are suspected to have contaminated a number of bases. These chemicals are used for a number of purposes, including manufacturing and packaging for food. Exposure to these chemicals has been linked to numerous cancers, decreased fertility, and much more.
In late 2021, a petroleum contamination was discovered at JBPHH. This contamination was caused by the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility.
