The Cottonwood County Recorder is able to issue certified copies of death certificates of deaths occurring anywhere in Minnesota from 1997 to the present. For a death occurring before 1997, contact us for assistance in locating the death certificate.

To apply in person:
Customers should come to the Recorder’s office with a picture ID. When you complete the application to prove a tangible interest you will receive the death certificate immediately.

To apply by mail:
Download the application and complete it. Sign it in front of a notary and return to us with a check for $13.00. We will process your request the same day we receive it.
